Playing catch up from our Fall Adventures
Our boat continued meandering through various islands, stopping at hidden beaches and sandbars. After the adventure of the dragon hiking the day before, it was the perfect way to relax. Swim, snorkel, nap on the sand then hop back onto the boat to putter along to our next location.
We've attempted to snorkel on our own a few times. Once in the turbulent waves among scrabby volcanic rocks on the coast of Hawaii (not successfully) and once in the Florida Keys, much calmer floating along but still a bit difficult for us to get the hang of breathing underwater.
New strategy this time, wearing the life vests so we can focus on breathing instead of trying to swim along. Best strategy ever! Our guides knew the best locations for the most amazing sea life.

Loved watching the dance of these tiny fishies. Spreading out before condensing back together. The way they bobbed around the shallows following an invisible path that each of the fishies knew.
In choosing which tour we wanted I was intrigued by the 'extra add on' of Manta Point. A chance to snorkel with Manta Rays sounded amazing!
So we climb from our boat into the dingy and start puttering towards the Point. We see lots of snorkel tips and splashing fins and know we must be in the right place. Our guide tells us to get ready and we pop over board. Suddenly we're in the midst of all the other snorkel tips and splashing fins. Swimming this way and that. Peering into the sea, but then looking up to get our bearings: where's our guide? Where's our boat? Where's the Manta Rays.
After floundering for a bit we were offered the kind advice from a stranger: go with the current! Turrns out swimming in circles is not the right strategy here! Our boat came back for us, holding onto the side we swiftly maneuvered around the crowds. This time following the current and spotting the graceful creatures hovering below us.
Mesmerizing watching how they moved and floated on invisible currents just at the edge of a sea cliff. Following above them before they dove down out of site, on their own hunt for adventure.

After swimming through crowded spaces and currents and seeing amazingly beautiful creatures I decided to take a moment and relax. Flipped onto my back and bobbed along, taking in the scenery and thinking just how lucky we were to be in this picturesque place. Then I hear Jesse getting my attention to look at the 'really big fish swimming below us'
I roll over to admire the creature and realize it's not just a fish, it's a shark! Jesse suggested, how do you think you would have reacted to me shouting, Carri there's a shark swimming below you. Good point Jesse, good point. And it was just the tiniest little shark with what I'm sure was gigantic teeth!
