The idea has been in the back of our minds for a few years: maybe, one day living abroad. Stars aligned, possibilities arose of an overseas work assignment. We waited and waited and waited while details were discussed and debated.
Meanwhile we dreamed of the possibilities, what will it be like to live in a land where we don't speak the language, where the cultural traditions aren't already engraved in our brains, where a simple trip to the market is full of mysterious packaging, new tastes, textures and flavors!
We wondered about our families, our friendships. A mixture of sadness and excitement. Sad to not see our favorite faces, excited to host many visitors, make new friends and explore a brand new (to us) part of the world.
Finally we heard the news, it was official! We're going to Japan!
Thus began an intense 6 months of finishing house projects, purging, organizing (and inventorying!) all our possessions, learning a new language and dreaming of what's next!
