Nestled in the mountains, Shirakawa-go, a World Heritage Site. We walked along the creamy blue river as the trees opened up displaying farmhouses hundreds of years old.

Wandering through the village, imagining the generations that have lived in these houses, tended these gardens and rice fields. Remnants from a simpler time.
And of course, a village wouldn't be complete without statues, weathered carvings and shrines.
Who knew just how much could grow on a thatched roof?!? Wonder how long they let stuff grow before cutting it down. How do they cut it down? Weed Whackers? Fancy scissors? Garden Sheers?
