Instead of saying goodbye to our family and friends together, saying goodbye to our home together, taking this big leap, this big risk and starting our adventure together we'll be taking these giant steps alone. Processing these big feelings alone. Jumping in to a brand new culture and navigating those first few days alone. But hey, it's the policy. (For now, Avoiding my social scientist soap box and the intrinsic value of not having to go through big life changes alone, perhaps instead with the support of a person close to you, for example ones life partner, but whatever, policy is policy)
Framing this as bonus time and focusing on the positives: More time with family and friends. More time in the home I love. More time for adventure! And a last minute trip to a favorite place.

Morning pool adventures. Strategizing new card games. Catching waves and wildlife.
Eating all the cheese and my favorite ice cream: still tastes like my childhood!
Quality time with some of my favorite people.
