Post dinner walk along Tokyo Bay. Admiring the lights glistening on the wavey water. We stumbled upon a smallish cargo ship in the midst of the unloading process. It was incredible to watch the giant metal boxes swinging up and down, the workers jumping to undo the cables, balancing on the edge of the boxes to shove the next one into place (so so so dangerous!)
We've heard for months about the TeamLab Borderless. But even the recommendations and descriptions from our friends didn't do it justice!
You begin by standing still in a dark room, soon chrysalises begin appear and after a moment the butterflies emerge and begin fluttering about. First on the walls then soon taking off through the door and down the hallway. These butterflies float in and out of the other rooms, interacting with each art display.
Rooms after room full of shiny sparkley things with lights spinning and twirling all about.
We carefully maneuvered under then through this room of Lily pads, each one swaying and seemingly changing the way the light danced along the surfaces.
And this room, the lights reacting with us as we move through. Starting off a cool dark color, then brightening as we walk through until the whole room glows bright and warm.
Amazing to imagine the hours and months dreaming and plotting and programming to create these intricate evolving displays.
And then a very different kind of museum- a lot less complex and inspiring, but definitely funnier. A whole museum dedicated to Poop!
Tokyo was much more full of cautious folks, each store/museum/hotel took our temperature, displayed their hospitality by spraying sanitizer onto our hands. Reassuring to see everyone still taking things seriously and carefully. Knowing that cases are starting to rise, but keeping our fingers crossed that responsibility works and things calm down.
We're collecting treasures for those we love and us as well. Things to remind us of this incredible experience. Some treasures are bigger than others, this one has been dreamed of and researched about for months and months. Super fancy watch for a well deserving guy!
